NEW YEAR, NEW LOOK DEVONSHIRE SQUARE!

New year, new look for Devonshire Square!

Work has begun to make Devonshire Square (the end of Devonshire Road where it meets Green Lanes) a permanent public space.

After a trial period and consultation with residents the square will be properly pedestrianised and new features will be added to make it a more usable space for everyone.

Key elements of the design include

  • A flexible, open and accessible space, connected to the high street, with clear signage that makes it easy to find

  • Transforming the existing section of street and pavement into new greening areas, using sustainable drainage systems and supporting local biodiversity

  • Providing informal seating providing spaces to rest or connect with others

  • Including mosaic artworks depicting key moments in Palmers Green’s history, co-designed with students from Laurel Park School

  • Providing power supply to support a diversity of community-led events and activities to be delivered on the Square

  • Accommodating a shared surface area with clear signage encouraging cyclists to reduce their speed and respect pedestrians

  • Reusing/repurposing existing pavement and materials as much as possible.

The first stage is clearing the site including removing the equipment which has been safely installed in Hazelwood School and the kids are already enjoying.

Work is expected to be completed in the Spring and we hope to be back bigger and better with our regular markets.
